This restaurant is truly a little gem: we dined here during our visit to York and it was truly a memorable experience.
The food was of the highest quality, and the presentation was a true feast for the eyes. My husband had the steak, and I had the delicious vegetarian options.
I highly recommend the Roast figue with goat cheese and the Persian spiced aubergine, truly spectacular.
Finally, the desserts, lemon posset and dark Belgian chocolate & cherry delice were fantastic. Compliments to the chef and all the staff, who were kind and smiling. We’ll definitely be back!
From the outside this looks like a tearoom, but don’t be put off. Book a table for an evening meal and enjoy a great, modern-style bistro menu. The food was excellent with a reasonably priced wine list and friendly staff. It will be on our list of places to go back to next time we visit York. Highly recommended.

The GuardianWhat an amazing little place. We visited here for lunch last week during our trip to York. A great value lunch for 2 courses. The gin cocktail was fantastic too.
I had the Pate starter and the meatloaf burger, both of which were fantastic. The burger was melt in the mouth with homemade chips, absolutely fantastic food.
The menu here is quite small. My partner was unsure what to order and said nothing really took his fancy.
I ordered the featherblade beef and he ordered the lamb. It’s definitely quality over quantity here with the menu. It was the best lamb we’ve ever tasted. The beef also was lovely. Both served with veggies.
We ordered the banoffee pie and chocolate truffle for dessert and loved them. We were disappointed we hadn’t ordered starters as well.
Would definitely return and highly recommend.
Wonderful lunchtime dining experience – this place has and does it all. The look of the bistro is excellent – clean and light – and the service is so good – we were made to feel special and our every need catered for.
Because we had booked the day before, the chef had created a vegan filo parcel for me which was served on a citrussy salad and had a lovely little chick pea and peanut salad on the side. My partner had the smoked salmon fishcake which was also homemade and served with peas and roasted salmon fillet. We shared an extra serving of vegetables which included perfectly cooked cabbage, roasted carrots and parsley root. We had sorbet to finish which came with raspberries and raspberry coulis, topped with toasted almonds. 2 delicious coffees rounded off a sublime meal.
A friend and I were staying overnight and wanted to go somewhere unfussy but good quality without opting for a chain restaurant. Luckily we booked because on arrival for our table at 8.30pm we realised the restaurant was totally booked up on a Monday night!
The staff couldn’t have been more helpful, smiley, friendly, knew the menu, busy but attentive – bang on.
My friend chose the hot smoked salmon starter and duck main, both of which she said were perfectly executed – I tasted the starter and it was a well balanced dish with beetroot and a herby spread for the croutons. I had the steak pave which was very tasty and did exactly what you’d expect.
For dessert we shared the house favourite, the name of which escapes me but it was meringuey, gingery and rhubarby and had almond brittle too. personally we’d have had less of the brittle (or had it smashed into small nuggets) and more of the amazing rhubarb compote, but it was really delicious and I rarely have pudding!
Definitely recommended.
